BREADTH
These pieces show my growth and development as an artist over my high school years. They consist of various mediums and subject matter.
MUSEUM PIECE
Having always been interested in the Japanese culture, I was inspired by Takashi Murakami's piece "Korin Chrysanthemum" as well as the "superflat" style he uses in the majority of his pieces. Murakami generates a cariety of color, along with the concept of Japanese tradition and culture, ambiguous "cuteness," and a emphasizes other elements of the Pop art movement. Murakami provides an excellent foundation for applying many motifs.
Using a layering method to create clean-cut lines and a "sticker" effect, I began with a background of organic shapes of neutral colors against a solid black foundation. From there, I incorporated my own renditions of Murakami's designs, such as a sprouting flower overtaking most of the piece, a Japanese artist stamp marking it, and the striking, vibrant smears of color to lead the viewer's eyes around the entirety of the piece.
